The Barkleys of Broadway

MGM, 1949

The Barkley's of Broadway is a really great film.  It was the last pairing of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, and their only film to be shot in colour.  Rogers was not the first choice for the role of Dinah Barkley, it was originally cast with Judy Garland.  For whatever reasons Ginger Rogers was cast instead, and the Astaire/Rogers duo ended with a bang.

Roger's And Astaire's Last Movie

The Barkley's of Broadway is about a bickering married couple who dance together on the stage.  Dinah Barkley (Rogers) wants to work in dramas instead of musical comedy, especially since a young French man has been telling her that she would make a great dramatic actress and that she should get out of musicals.  So she and Josh separate very bitterly.  Josh becomes very jealous of Dina's new supporter, and tries to win her back.
