Summer Stock
This is one of my favorite musicals
Jane Falbury (Judy Garland), is the owner of a farm. She has problems with her farm, her two farm hands quit because she can't pay them and her younger sister Abigail (Gloria DeHaven) decides she wants to use the barn to put on a show which Abigail will star in. Jane has doubts about marrying her fiancée Orville Winngate (Eddie Bracken) and is starting to fall in love with her sisters boyfriend Joe Ross (Gene Kelly).
This was Judy Garland's last musical for MGM. The last production number she filmed was this one for Get Happy. This had been filmed about a month after the rest of the movie had been shot, and Judy Garland had lost a lot of weight, so it doesn't fit well with the way she had looked throughout the rest of the film. Still this is one of her greatest routines from all of her movies. Another great routine in the movie was Dig, Dig, Dig For Your Dinner, performed by Gene Kelly. Also a song that didn't get that great of a review Friendly Star, which I think was one of the most beautiful songs that Judy Garland sung. | ![]() |
